Comprised of six sales branches throughout the North Island, supported by a national team based in Auckland. In addition to selling a full range of the company’s plastic products such as rural water pipes, culverts and drainage coil, the network also sell a full range of fittings, valves, tanks, and farm supplies.
Our ‘one stop’ approach allows us to have complete control of products from the factory to the customer, cutting out the middleman. Our experienced personnel can provide the technical solutions and advice to support and project designs and installation.
Civil Direct is one of New Zealand’s leading suppliers of polyethylene pipes and associated products used in the civil infrastructure sector.
Civil Direct – Is comprised of an Auckland based sales division of plastic piping systems associated with civil infrastructure. The product range is predominantly plastic based and consists of drainage coil, pressure pipe, sumps and grouting systems. In addition a full range of valves, fittings, both mechanical and electrofusion are kept in stock.
Our aim is to provide products and service direct from the manufacturer to the end user.
Our reputation has grown on the basis of providing the customer with quality products at a horizontally integrated system.
Initially Civil Direct was known as an agricultural pipe manufacturer, i.e. Rural Direct, today however our range of drainage products, polyethylene water mains and associated fittings has allowed us to be a major force in the civil market.
RD Manufacturing produces a comprehensive range of flexible plastic pipes with a full array of fittings and accessories for all industry applications.
As part of RD Manufacturing’s commitment to sustainability, it also houses a recycling division which takes industry produced plastic and converts it into products such as layerboards. The company also has the ability to manufacture rotational powder, fabricate plastic polyethylene fittings, sumps and cesspits.

Our History
In 2004 the company was purchased by Neil and Linda van Duyn and separated in its different divisions:
– Rural Direct Retail Branches
– RD Manufacturing ‘Extrusion & Fabrication’
– RD Manufacturing ‘Recycle’
Established in 1989, the company initially manufactured and supplied quality thin-wall polyethylene irrigation pipe to the rural and horticulture sector. Over the past 25 years that range has been expanded to include a full range of solid wall polyethylene pipe, corrugated pipe, tanks, troughs and other farm supplies.
The plastic recycling division gave the company the ability to offer a closed-loop system, a first for New Zealand. Direct selling to the farmer and contractor was expanded through the addition of five New Zealand retail stores.
In 2010 the Civil Direct brand was established to sell products into the civil infrastructure market. This expansion necessitated the relocation of all manufacturing divisions, into a 10,000sqm factory in Papakura.
In 2011 RD Manufacturing created New Zealands first Onsite Mobile Extrusion Plant which was used to manufacture 400km of 110mm MDPE for Contact Energy’s Wairakei Bioreactor.
2012 brought the introduction of Maxiculvert. A flexible corrugated pipe available from 100 to 750mm in diameter and sold exclusively through the Rural Direct Retail chain.
